The way Andrew always did them (barring that one scenario where the defender was sandwiched between two zones for the attacker) was just like a normal game of 40k but on a bigger table. He would have 12" in from the entire long board edges, just like a 6'x4'. I don't like that deployment and I'm not interested in playing if its going to be that way. It changes the dynamic of Apoc. too much. I'd rather get sleep.

Yes, but Andrew's reign of terror is over. Long live my reign of terror.
The way I do deployment zones is like in the book. Roll a die, find the edge of the table that it points to, and then pick the furthest corner away. If it looks like one side will be too constricted, I will re-roll the die. Then each side sets back 6" away from that center line.
My main concern now is the bidding for deployment. Last game both teams bid 30 minutes, making the entire bidding process silly. I think from now on most people are going to bid 30. Going first hasn't proven to be that big of a deal... although with superheavies on the board, that's probably not as true as last time. We'll see and modify it accordingly.
The best thing for you to do is show up, play the first turn, get pissed, pick up your stuff and leave, screwing over your team. Make sure you hang around the store though after, so other people realize how bad the game was.
